Conflict of Adam And Eve, 11,
"Satan came to Genun and showed him how to make trumpets and horns, and string instruments, cymbals, lyres, harps and flutes, ;and he played them at all hours of the day and the night.... There were heard beautiful and sweet sounds which excited the heart.... And it pleased the children of Cain and they inflamed themselves with sin.... And Satan taught Genun to make a strong drink out of grain and he brought together groups of people in drinking-houses and they drank together.... And they blew their horns and beat their drums.
And Satan taught him to make dyes for their clothes and different patterns and colors, like crimson and purple . . . And all the sons of Cain appeared in beauty and in colorful dresses and with their horns, doing all kinds of wickedness . . . And they looked at the daughters of Cain and their beautiful figures and at their dyed hands and feet and their tattooed ornaments on their bodies and the fire of sin was kindled within them.'
And Seth said: Prophets and patriarchs, listen. My father, the first created, when he became sick unto death, sent me to the gate of paradise to ask God to have an angel lead me to the tree of compassion, that I might take of the oil and anoint my father, so that he might arise from his illness. This I did. And after my request an angel of the Lord came and asked me: What do you desire, Seth? Do you desire the oil which raises the sick which comes from the tree of which the oil flows, because of the illness of your father Adam? This he cannot have now. Go, therefore, and tell your father, that after 4000 years from the creation of the world, the only-begotten Son of God will become mortal and will descend below the earth and he will anoint him with that oil.
.... Then they all cried and land came out to the
place where Abel had been killed. And they found him lying on
the ground, killed, with animals around him and they cried and
wept because of this righteous man . . . And Adam carried him
with tears running down his face, and he went to the cave of treasure
where he placed the body and wrapped him up with sweet spaces.'"
Second Book of Adam and Eve Chapter 20:
1. After Cain had gone down to the land of dark soil and his children had multiplied therein, there was one of them whose name was Genun, son of Lamech the blind who slew Cain.
2. But as to this Genun, Satan came into him in his childhood
and he made sundry trumpets and horns, and string instruments, cymbals and psalteries and Iyres and harps, and flutes, and he played on them at all times and at every hour.
3. And when he played on them, Satan came into them, so that from among them were heard beautiful and sweet sounds, tbat ravished the heart.
4. Then he gathered companies upon companies to play on them; and when they played, it pleased well the children of Cain, who inflamed themselves with sin among themselves, and burnt as with fire; while Satan inflamed their hearts, one with another, and increased lust among them.
5. commit all manner of the grossest wickedness, which they knew not; and put them up to manifold doings which they knew not before.
7. Then Satan, when he saw that they yielded to Genun and hearkened to him in every thing he told them, rejoiced greatly, increased Genun's understanding, until he took iron and with it made weapons of war.
8. Then when they were drunk, hatred and murder increased among them; one man used violence against another to teach him evil taking his children and defiling them before him.
9. And when men saw they were overcome, and saw others that were not overpowered, those who were beaten came to Genun, took refuge with him, and he made them his confederates.
10. Then sin increased among them greatly; until a man married his own sister, or daughter or mother, and others; or the daughter of his father's sister so that there was no more distinction of relationship, and they no longer knew what is iniquity; but did wickedly, and the earth was defiled with sin and they angered God the Judge, who had created them.
11. But Genun gathered together companies upon companies, that played on horns and on all the other instruments we have already mentioned, at the foot of the Holy Mountain; and they did so in order that the children of Seth who were on the Holy Mountain should hear it.
12. But when the children of Seth heard the noise, they wondered, and came by companies, and stood on the top of the mountain to look at those below and they did thus a whole year.
13. When, at the end of that year, Genun saw that they were being won over to him little by little, Satan entered into him, and taught him to make dyeingstuffs for garments of divers patterns, and made him understand how to dye crimson and purple and what not.
14. And the sons of Cain who wrought all this, and shone in beauty and gorgeous apparel. gathered together at the foot of the mountain in splendour, with horns and gorgeous dresses, and horse races, committing all manner of abominations
24 After this a hundred men of the children of Seth gathered together, and said among themselves, "Come, let us go down to the children of Cain, and see what they do, and enjoy ourselves with them."
31 And then they looked at the daughters of Cain, at their beautiful figures, and at their hands and feet dyed with colour and tattooed in ornaments on their fares, the fire of sin was kindled in them.
32 Then Satan made them look most beautiful before
the sons of Seth, as he also made the sons of Seth appear of the
fairest in the eyes of the daughters of Cain, so that the daughters
of Cain lusted after the sons of Seth like ravenous beasts, and
the sons of Seth after the daughters of Cain, until they committed
abomination with them.
Gezeh Fragment of Enoch 8:1
"Satan taught men to make knives and breast
plates and all kinds of military hardware and to work ores of
the earth and how gold was to be worked and made into ornaments
for women ;and he showed them silver and taught them polishing
and eye paint and cosmetics and precious stones and dyes .The
sons and daughter of men adopted all these things and lead the
Saints astray and there was great wickedness on the earth and
they became perverted and lost all their ways . Seiazas taught
them scientific formulas and properties of roots and plants of
the earth. The eleventh pharmakos taught all manner of drugs,
incantations, prescriptions formulas. Others taught them star
gazing, astrology, meteorology, geology and signs of the sun and
moon."
1 Enoch 97: 8-10
" These men erected Synagogues and colleges
and placed in them scrolls and rich ornaments ... but they did
it to set themselves up for a light and for the honors of men.
They said ,'We are able to do whatever we please because we are
very rich!' Enoch replied, 'you are wrong ! your riches will soon
depart from you' but they went on seeking power of gain more grimly
than ever.'
Enoch (Black) 7:6.
" The earth fell under the rule of the lawless,
and [8:1] Azael [Satan] taught them the manufacture of weapons
and how to work the treasures of the earth. 4 The cry of those
slain of the people ascended to heaven. 9:1-3. The angels saw
blood flowing upon the earth, and heard the voices of the slain
crying out to God for vengeance "
Apocalypse of Adam 84:78.
"and they brought gold and silver and gifts
of all metals and copper and iron, all the treasures of the earth.
So they got the women and begot children of the darkness. Their
hearts were closed up and became hard by this imitation false
spirit."
"Livre d'Adam," in Migne, Dictionnaire 1:56.
"An interesting connection emerges in the account
of how "in the time of Enoch they committed murder, shedding
of blood of the children of men; they enslaved them, they sold
what did not belong to them, they entered homes without right,
and took whatever they wanted . . . they rigged the laws in their
favor, and imitated the abominable deeds of the rebellious angels
of a former time in which, when Abel tried to check them they
encompassed his death by a conspiracy."
Book of Adam, p. 17.
"There are false prophets who wander through
the mountains and hills, wild men with wild hair and wild voices.
They are called vagabond shepherds, live on herbs, and claim that
God speaks mysteries by their mouths. 147. One of them, by the
name of Marmon , led his followers to a place of filthy water.
"
The Book of Jubilees 4:19
In reference to the prophet Enoch ,we read
"And he was the first among men that are born
on earth who learnt writing and knowledge and wisdom and who wrote
down the signs of heaven according to the order of their months
in a book, that men might know the seasons of the years according
to the order of their separate months. And he was the first to
write a testimony . . . of what he saw in a vision as it will
happen to the children of men throughout their generations until
the day of judgment; he saw and understood everything, and wrote
his testimony, and placed the testimony on earth for all children
of men and for their generations."
Ethiopian Enoch Fragment
" In the days of Cain evil and deceitful practices
increased. The wicked spirits set themselves up in open and insolent
opposition to Adam and glorying in their earthly bodies learned
a great sin and openly exposed all the work they had seen in heaven."
2 Enoch 34:1-2
"They will not carry the yoke which I have placed
upon them'" the Lord told Enoch, 'but they will cast off
my yoke, and they will accept a different yoke. And they will
sow worthless seeds . . . and they renounced my uniqueness. And
all the world will be reduced to confusion by iniquities and wickedness."
Greek Enoch 98:5
"Slavery was not given from above but came by
transgression, and the barrenness of your women does not come
by nature but by your own willful perversions."
Enoch (Beatty 98:8)
"setting at naught the foundation of the inheritance
of their fathers in a spirit of apostasy, they have no peace of
mind and no joy."
Gezeh Enoch Fragment, XIII, 3.
Enoch speaks to them straight, "they could not
speak, nor could they raise their eyes to heaven for shame because
of their sins, and they were condemned. "
BHM 5:171
"For they have sinned, all of them the multitudes
of that time, their wives, sons, daughters ,... horses [mules],
their property, and all the birds that were in the world, which
God destroyed with them in the Flood. All that sinned were Swept
away "
1 Enoch 7:5-6 "And
they began to . . . devour one another's flesh, and drink the
blood. Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones."
From The Book of Moses 7:
9 And it came to pass that the Lord said unto me: Look; and I looked, and I beheld the land of Sharon, and the land of Enoch, and the land of Omner, and the land of Heni, and the land of Shem, and the land of Haner, and the land of Hanannihah, and all the inhabitants thereof;
10 And the Lord said unto me: Go to this people, and say unto them--Repent, lest I come out and smite them with a curse, and they die.
11 And he gave unto me a commandment that I should
baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, which is full
of grace and truth, and of the Holy Ghost, which beareth record
of the Father and the Son.
12 And it came to pass that Enoch continued to call upon all the people, save it were the people of Canaan, to repent;
13 And so great was the faith of Enoch, that he led the people of God, and their enemies came to battle against them; and he spake the word of the Lord, and the earth trembled, and the mountains fled, even according to his command; and the rivers of water were turned out of their course; and the roar of the lions was heard out of the wilderness; and all nations feared greatly, so powerful was the word of Enoch, and so great was the power of the language which God had given him.
14 There also came up a land out of the depth of the sea, and so great was the fear of the enemies of the people of God, that they fled and stood afar off and went upon the land which came up out of the depth of the sea.
15 And the giants of the land, also, stood afar off; and there went forth a curse upon all people that fought against God;
16 And from that time forth there were wars and bloodshed among them; but the Lord came and dwelt with his people, and they dwelt in righteousness.
17 The fear of the Lord was upon all nations, so great was the glory of the Lord, which was upon his people. And the Lord blessed the land, and they were blessed upon the mountains, and upon the high places, and did flourish.
18 And the Lord called his people ZION, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them.
19 And Enoch continued his preaching in righteousness unto the people of God. And it came to pass in his days, that he built a city that was called the City of Holiness, even ZION.
20 And it came to pass that Enoch talked with the Lord; and he said unto the Lord: Surely Zion shall dwell in safety forever. But the Lord said unto Enoch: Zion have I blessed, but the residue of the people have I cursed.
21 And it came to pass that the Lord showed unto
Enoch all the inhabitants of the earth; and he beheld, and lo,
Zion, in process of time, was taken up into heaven. And the Lord
said unto Enoch: Behold mine abode forever.
Pearl of Great Price Moses Chap8 .
1 And all the days of Enoch were four hundred and thirty years.
2 And it came to pass that Methuselah, the son of Enoch, was not taken, that the covenants of the Lord might be fulfilled, which he made to Enoch; for he truly covenanted with Enoch that Noah should be of the fruit of his loins.
3 And it came to pass that Methuselah prophesied that from his loins should spring all the kingdoms of the earth (through Noah), and he took glory unto himself.
4 And there came forth a great famine into the land, and the Lord cursed the earth with a sore curse, and many of the inhabitants thereof died.
5 And it came to pass that Methuselah lived one hundred and eighty-seven years, and begat Lamech;
6 And Methuselah lived, after he begat Lamech, seven hundred and eighty-two years, and begat sons and daughters;
7 And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years, and he died.
8 And Lamech lived one hundred and eighty-two years, and begat a son,
9 And he called his name Noah, saying: This son shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord hath cursed.
10 And Lamech lived, after he begat Noah, five hundred and ninety-five years, and begat sons and daughters;
11 And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred and seventy-seven years, and he died.
12 And Noah was four hundred and fifty years old, and begat Japheth; and forty-two years afterward he begat Shem of her who was the mother of Japheth, and when he was five hundred years old he begat Ham.
13 And Noah and his sons hearkened unto the Lord, and gave heed, and they were called the sons of God.
14 And when these men began to multiply on the face
of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, the sons of men
saw that those daughters were fair, and they took them wives,
even as they chose.
15 And the Lord said unto Noah: The daughters of thy sons have sold themselves; for behold mine anger is kindled against the sons of men, for they will not hearken to my voice.
16 And it came to pass that Noah prophesied, and taught the things of God, even as it was in the beginning.
17 And the Lord said unto Noah: My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for he shall know that all flesh shall die; yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years; and if men do not repent, I will send in the floods upon them.
18 And in those days there were giants on the earth, and they sought Noah to take away his life; but the Lord was with Noah, and the power of the Lord was upon him.
19 And the Lord ordained Noah after his own order, and commanded him that he should go forth and declare his Gospel unto the children of men, even as it was given unto Enoch.
20 And it came to pass that Noah called upon the children of men that they should repent; but they hearkened not unto his words;
21 And also, after that they had heard him, they came up before him, saying: Behold, we are the sons of God; have we not taken unto ourselves the daughters of men? And are we not eating and drinking, and marrying and giving in marriage? And our wives bear unto us children, and the same are mighty men, which are like unto men of old, men of great renown. And they hearkened not unto the words of Noah.
22 And God saw that the wickedness of men had become great in the earth; and every man was lifted up in the imagination of the thoughts of his heart, being only evil continually.
23 And it came to pass that Noah continued his preaching unto the people, saying: Hearken, and give heed unto my words;
24 Believe and repent of your sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, even as our fathers, and ye shall receive the Holy Ghost, that ye may have all things made manifest; and if ye do not this, the floods will come in upon you; nevertheless they hearkened not.
25 And it repented Noah, and his heart was pained that the Lord had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at the heart.
26 And the Lord said: I will destroy man whom I have created, from the face of the earth, both man and beast, and the creeping things, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth Noah that I have created them, and that I have made them; and he hath called upon me; for they have sought his life.
27 And thus Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord; for Noah was a just man, and perfect in his generation; and he walked with God, as did also his three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
28 The earth was corrupt before God, and it was filled with violence.
29 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth.
30 And God said unto Noah: The end of all flesh is
come before me, for the earth is filled with violence, and behold
I will destroy all flesh from off the earth.
